Low rates of physical activity, poor nutrition, food insecurity, chronic diseases, and obesity have been top concerns for public health officials in Alabama for some time. The Alabama Wellness Alliance released its plan to improve health behaviors in the state. (WSFA) -A new plan is in place to improve our approach to physical activity and nutrition in Alabama. Good alternatives to empty calorie foods include whole-grain crackers and breads, fruits and vegetables, lean meats like poultry and fish, and low-fat or fat-free dairy foods.MONTGOMERY, Ala. Foods with empty calories like candy, sweets and snack foods make it hard to get enough vitamins and minerals without eating too many calories. Listen to your body and eat when you are hungry.Įmpty calories come from foods that have few vitamins and minerals but lots of calories from added sugar or fat.
